Netflix’s first Indian original series, Sacred Games, is an adaptation of the novel by acclaimed writer Vikram Chandra. Shot as a neo-noir thriller over 8 episodes is gripping, intense and politically loaded. The thriller is also a poignant commentary on the equalizing power of hatred, perhaps the only emotion that is truly “secular” in India. A link in their pasts leads an honest cop to a fugitive gang boss, whose cryptic warning spurs the officer on a quest to save Mumbai from cataclysm.
The action-packed series follows Guns and Gangs detective Sam Wazowski and Drug Squad detective Kelly Duff. By day, they are heroes in their particular way: skilled, tough, determined, and entertaining, fighting to do good in a broken system. But by night, they’re both grappling with loneliness, dysfunctional families, screwed-up love lives, and a sense that their professional ambitions may not be totally in line with their personal needs. Their friendship could help to balance each other out if only they didn’t drive one another utterly insane.
This docuseries disputes the Mexican government’s account of how and why 43 students from Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers’ College vanished in Iguala in 2014.
