An adapted version of this programme, first aired in 2013, in memory of one of the nation’s, and ITV’s, best-loved entertainment stars Cilla Black, which opens with a tribute from Paul O’ Grady, Cilla’s long-term friend and host of the 2013 The One and Only Cilla Black.Host and close friend Paul O’Grady is merrily waxing lyrical about how she is a national treasure when Cilla Black stops him with just a few words. “A national treasure? I should be buried then.”Although the whole show was probably tightly scripted (no Surprise Suprise for our Cilla), she’s not lost her touch for making it seem improvised. This tribute to her 50-year career in showbusiness is a glitzier version of This Is Your Life with her showbiz pals turning up (including Alison Moyet and Katie Melua) to effuse as well as members of the public who once appeared in her long-running TV shows. The clips of Blind Date featuring wacky contestants and some dodgy hairdos are priceless, while a Blind Date re-enactment with previous winners from the 1980s and 1990s is very entertaining. Cilla even sings. The programme celebrates Cilla’s long and successful career, and looks back to where it all began, with The Beatles and best-selling success as a music artist, before becoming one of the UK’s best-loved TV hosts.
